Measures in Errew!

We undertook some practical measure challenges, estimating, discussing, explaining, recording, publishing!

We worked through various challenges!
Some sneaky science snuck in!!!
We got a little wet!!!
We used various tools with standard measures too!
Another sneaky ‘what’ll happen if…’ science experiment! We can do that in a small school with ease!

A great day measuring capacity!

Coding in Errew

Bee Bots!

We borrowed these coding bees and had a go!

It took a few attempts, but we all solved the maze!

We made our own mazes and had a go!

Juniors made mazes!
Using coding on Microbits!
We write codes to see our names appear in lights!

We coded hearts and sent our love!

We also had some coding conservations and sent our messages to others!

What a coding experience, thanks to the school who lent us their equipment! We kept it safe and used it to learn! Lucky us!

Amazing Triangles!

We’ve been studying World War II and have encountered the engineer Rosie Riviter. We have listened to a story about Rosie, a budding engineer like ourselves, whose great-aunt Rose comes to visit, just when Rosie needs some self-confidence in her engineering ability.

As part of our STEM work, we’ve been studying shapes and forces.

We set ourselves a challenge this month!

Seniors made some 3D constructions using lollipop sticks and tac.

We googled bicycles, and explored what shapes make them move, and what shapes make them strong.

We built strong structures, reinforcing them with struts.

We googled structures in the real world, like the Eiffel Tower, and geodesic designs, and arched bridges. We have some great knowledge already in our classroom on these strong structures.

We tested our 3D shapes using light pressure.

Next we had a design and make challenge.

In our groups or pairs, we made strong structures that had to hold a heavy, hardback Jacqueline Wilson book…

Or we made a tall structure! Students chose their task.

The Construction Stage!

We discussed rubrics and made plans, constructed and tested!

The Evaluation Stage!

Short and stout!
No blue tac!
The power of struts!
A little tape slipped by!
A bookstand! A strut in action!
Happy reading!
A design, three ways!
Another design, two ways!
We delivered! Rosie would be proud of our engineers!
