We’ve been measuring trees with clinometers!

Using string, rubbers as weights and straws taped to protractors, we hit for the Community Centre trees to test out our clinometer designs with the help of Ms P, our TY right-hand woman!

This tough challenge has us thinking about triangles, our own height and 45 degree angles!

Success!

Later in the day, we logged on to an amazing zoom facilitated by mathematician Dr Rachel Quinlan, University of Galway.

We learnt about paper and the amazing mathematical abilities paper has!

Inspired, we folded paper and then made paper planes.

Plus we tested them- a bit of a tradition in the big room in Errew at this stage!

We discussed our fair tests; what we could change and what we could not, and at the end, Mr M helped us work out throwing for distance! Brilliant fun!

A tenacious, hard-working 6th class lady also made an amazing loop of paper, big enough for the whole class (and Ms P and Mr M!) from an A4 page! Wow! Try it!!!
