The Market Place!

We stared our New Year with an experiment in economics and STEM, with a little Geography thrown in!

Our chimes formed our stock market bell!

Each group received 10 golden tokens, to spend as they wished to purchase resources to meet the various demands of various tasks!

Day one, we set four tasks with a sizeable challenge, and just rewards!

As the groups explored the tasks, suggestions were made for borrowing and paying back, with interest- if the kitty ran dry!

Needless to say, a quiet black market developed, but we quickly put paid to that!!!

The children tallied their scores at the end of the hour, with a further two Market Place sessions to come!

After the tasks, the teacher revised and developed ways of engaging with the individual challenges, so everyone knows how to, or the best way to, solve a challenge for them.

The children also developed the usual group-work social and networking skills we see at play in the real market place.

They also had to problem-solve in real-time as they raced to meet the deadline!

Our day ended with the chime!

Day two- a new set of challenges!

A periscope! We had to design and make a periscope, purchase our mirrors and reflect that light!
Cloak and dagger construction!
Tower creation!

We had to construct paper towers of one metre height!

Comparing the heights! A bit to go!
We got there!
A quick map-making task to round out some activities!

Tallies of our earnings after two days and some quiz questions!

The Siopa!

We developed our monetary symbols are the week went on.

We have more to do. Snow hampered the market! A bit of a bear in the end…but the bull will be back next week!
